Review: New Balance RC1400V2

Boston-based New Balance will add to the Competition footwear category with the introduction of the updated 1400v2 racer.

The 2nd generation of the 1400 allows runners to enjoy a lightweight performance racing flat designed for efficient, speedy tempo runs as well as everyday casual training runs. The unique fit and footprint make the 1400 a must-have for every runner’s closet.

The 1400v2 features a 10mm drop, breathable air mesh, blown rubber outsole; no sew overlays and TPU films, and intelligent geometrical design in the sole unit for inherent stability.

The 1400 gained “cult” status when it became a fast favorite amongst runners all over the world. From the likes of Olympians such as Jenny Simpson, to everyday runners who want something a bit more substantial for their racing flat, the 1400 checks all sorts of boxes. Fast in its transition, supportive to the foot and secure fitting in the upper – the V2 takes what was so loved in the first version and keeps it, pumping up the looks and colors that much more, in an even lighter package.

What we like about the New Balance RC1400 V2:

Featherweight = Much lighter than it’s predecessor, weight of shoe is decrease from 201g to a mere 178g base on Men’s Size US10
Responsiveness of a REVlite® midsole provide nice amount of cushioning and enhanced stability of a the upper, suitable for use in speed workout
Flat 10mm heel to toe drop is great or mid foot running
Breatheable and you can wear them without sock when doing your short speed workout

Limitation:

We had covered about 80km on the RC1400V2 before reviewing. From Speed work, interval training, 2.4km. 10km and a 21km half marathon. However we felt that the RC1400v2, just like it’s predecessor not suitable to be use for a full marathon as we felt that it does not provide enough cushioning to protect and cushion the shoe through the marathon.
