Movie: RED (Retired. Extremely. Dangerous) Review

It had been quite sometime since I treat myself to a movie. Last week after my training run session, I was able to catch the exclusive preview of the movie RED starting Bruce Willis and Morgan Freeman. To be frank, I do not know anything about the movie but it doesn’t really matter cause one of my favorite action movie hero is in the movie, the one any only Die Hard – Bruce Willis.

RED is short for Retired. Extremely. Dangerous is inspire by a DC comics book that revolves around our main character, Frank Moses (Bruce Willis) who is a retired top class CIA agent who is trying to adjust to retirement. Day in and day out he was he was did the same dull and boring thing over and over again Occasionally he will call to complain about his missing retirement check not because the fact that he did not receive it but rather he just want to talk to someone – preferably a female, this is where Sarah (Parker) came in the picture. Over time Frank fall in love with talking to Sarah that he schedule to meet but little that he know that the government was onto him. A strike force was sent to his place to eliminate him, just like a good wine… it gets better as it age, Frank took the whole strike force down using his experience to lure them into a trap and he took them out one at a time. This was definitely the best 10 mins of any movie I had seen in a while.

The rollercoaster adventure did not end there, Frank visited Sarah’s place and “abducted” her to keep her save. – which is definitely not anyone’s idea of a good first date. Frank is now forced out of retirement, to find out who wants him dead. He sought out his old buddies from the CIA. Joe (Morgan Freeman) who is adjusting relatively well in a retirement home. He then approach Marvin (John Malkovich) who is a loony conspiracy theorist that had been given dosages of LSD on a daily basis while he was still in the CIA.

The team will not be complete without Victoria (Mirren) who is looking completely comfortable in her gorgeous home, arranging flowers and embracing retirement. But looks are deceiving as she was once the CIA greatest assassin. It’s like they said, you can’t truly take anyone out of the game as she still takes on ‘odd jobs’ on the side that have nothing to do with putting together floral arrangements or cookie making. Together they must figure out who wanted them dead and to make matters worst, an up and coming hotshot in the CIA, William Cooper (Karl Urban) who had been put in charge to take Frankand his team down.

The movie saw Frank and Cooper engage in hand-to-hand combat which I personally feel is one of the best action scenes in the movie.

I guess you would agree with me that there is just something about an action flick that sparks an interest in all of us. This movie has great car chases, the constant firing of machine guns, and talented actors that bring it all together. Red has these mix of chemistry that makes a good movie. It lived up to what I expected and even went a little further. It’s an action comedy and date movie all wrap into one awesome movie. It’s worth the watch!

Rating : 4 out of 5 Smiley (:
