New Balance will update the award-winning 860v2 with the New Balance 860v3 with a special limited edition design for the New York Metropolitan area. The update to the 860v3 design preserve both the stability quotient and ride that runners have come to enjoy in this series, with the third generation remaining largely consistent but promises an even smoother ride due to slightly reconfigured geometries and new technologies.
The special Limited Edition NYC 860v3 shoe will also launch in November, at a time when all eyes are on Manhattan. This unique design features bright, bold colors that take inspiration from graffiti art found throughout all five boroughs on streets, bridges, buildings and even inside museums.
The 860v3 pays tribute to creative graffiti art that is synonymous with New York City culture and is evident to runners no matter where they train. The Limited Edition NYC 860v3 was designed to capture the proud, diverse spirit of the City and the distinct residents and visitors that make New York City one of the world’s favorite cities. The Limited Edition NYC 860v3 will be available in both men and women version at selected specialty retailers and New Balance Concept Stores. The new 860v3 debuts an exciting new upper material, the more-sustainable NuFoam, which is a thin perforated layer of EVA used in the saddle that decomposes quickly in landfills.
The nature and shape of this new material allows it to contour around the foot and instep for a better, more customized mid-foot fit and snug wrap around the arch. Also new to the shoe is TBeam, a lightweight TPU shank running through the center of the midsole.
Inspired by the center stringer in a surfboard which can be engineered to give the board a desired rigidity and support, TBeam has the structure to deliver better torsional stability and arch support, guaranteeing a smooth transition and dependable support at mid stance. An entirely new foam-based heel unit enables a larger Abzorb® crash pad that can be segmented to significantly help slow down the rate of pronation.
The new technologies and slightly reconfigured geometries in the 860v3 lead to an improved overall mid-foot fit without compromising the locked-in heel, forgiving forefoot area and open met head windows for toe splay. By maintaining a consistent post placement and hardness as well the same offset and midsole heights as the 860v2, the 860v3 promises similar stability and support with an even better ride.
The 860v3 is available at all New Balance Concept Stores since November 2012 and is retail at $175
