Review: Mizuno PAssion Mount Faber Run 2012

Back again for it’s 6th time is the Annual Mizuno PAssion Mount Faber 10km Run held at Bukit Merah View open space between Block 121 and 123. This year saw another great success with a total of 2588 registered participants as compared to last year’s turnout of 2565 runners.

The Mount Faber Run was started six years ago in the Tanglin-Cairnhill Division and is Organised by the Community Sports Club from Tanjong Pagar Group Representation Constituency (GRC) and Radin Mas Single-Member Constituency (SMC) in partnership with VGO Corporation Limited and World of Sports, it has since become an annual event for Tanjong Pagar GRC and Radin Mas SMC.

The route were slightly altered as compare to previous years but it will still challenge the runners as they make their way across the Bukit Merah area and towards Mount Faber, The 10km run route will provides a combination of flat road and uphill and downhill surfaces, allowing those who took part to see the landscape around Mount Faber.

Flag off time was at 7:30am sharp. The first 2-3 km was a series of uphill and downhill terrain, following the contours of the township of Bukit Merah. Then we came to the first traffic stop. As Organizers did not have the rights to stop traffic, therefore everyone unfortunate had to stop and wait for the traffic marshall to give the “Go Sign” before proceeding.

The route led everyone uphill to reach the peak of Mount Faber. This was clearly the toughest section of the race as many participant made several small stops before they carried on scaling up the hill. Water Aid station was station on the peak to providing Ice cold 100plus to all the participants.

From there it was a fast downhill slope down Mount Faber. Many participant took this opportunity to open up their stride and take advantage of the downslope to catch up on their timing. Many make quick work in clearing this section of the route.

Many return participant would agree that This year run is slightly easier due to race route changed without the need to charge up Telok Blangah Rise. From the foot of the hill it was about 2km of flat route to the finishing line.

There were perhaps only 3 distance markers – 2.5km, 5km, and the humanoid 7.5km and the water station was sufficient, although some would agree if organizer would provide 100plus at all the water station as there no 100 plus available at 2.5km hydration point

As soon as they crossed the finishing line, Banana, mineral water and 100 plus given to all runners along with the Finisher Medals was given out to every finisher; this was the third time Mizuno giving out Finisher’s medal for this event

Overall, it was a great experience for me. The organization was flawless in my opinion and the hydration points were well manned. it had been a smooth process from registration to run pack collection, to the run itself.

The only complain is probably the few traffic lights, which halted some of our momentum a bit. But more importantly, the Mt Faber route was refreshing!! I’m definitely doing the Mt Faber Run again next year!!
