Come 28 October 2012, the ultimate running event for South East Asia, the adidas King of the Road (KOTR) race returns to the Lion City! This year, the final leg of the region’s largest and most colourful race is set to take the newly opened Gardens by the Bay by storm – making it one of the first mass run to take place there.
Continuing the huge success of its official launch in 2011, the KOTR will make its tour in five countries- Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines and Singapore, with the most scenic race route that a running race has to offer – cities, causeways or the expressways. Each country is a qualifying leg, culminating in the grand finals which will take place in Singapore.
This year, the race will begin and end at Singapore’s newest iconic landmark, Gardens by the Bay, and will see passionate runners setting paces past iconic sites such as the Flower Dome, Heritage Gardens, Golden & Silver Gardens, Dragonfly Lake and Bay East Garden, the Singapore Flyer and the Floating Platform. This race route will make history as one of the first mass race to be held at the much-anticipated venue of Gardens by the Bay.
With a unique 16.8km route, the city race is targeted at everyone who likes to run – from the social runner, to the serious athlete. One of the objectives of the adidas KOTR is also to encourage runners to take part in all five adidas KOTR events across Southeast Asia, as the total distance completed will be the equivalent of two full marathons (84km).
The adidas KOTR is aimed at bringing runners together from around the region. Each country is a qualifying leg towards the finals, which will be held here in Singapore on 28 October 2012. The winner of each country’s 16.8km closed category will win an expense paid trip to Singapore to compete with the best of the best in Southeast Asia. An estimated total of over 12,000 passionate runners are expected to pound the streets of Singapore.
Runners can sign up and register online at the official Singapore adidas KOTR website (http://www.adidaskingoftheroad.com/sg/) from the beginning of July 2012 onwards. The participation fee for the race is SGD$50 and the closing date is marked at the end of September 2012.
