Review: Columbia Drainmaker – Water meets running!

Columbia had recently introduced a  water hybrid shoes that sounds like a great alternative to open-toed sandals and Croc-like water shoes.

The Columbia Drainmaker is a Water hybrid shoe that feels like a running shoe build to be worn in and out of the water comfortabily. Equip with the quick-dry capabilities of a water shoe.  It weights a mere 291gram only.

The upper features an Open shell mesh providing excellent breathability with a durable TPU toe cap, while the Techlite™ midsole has built-in drainage ports in the heel and forefoot to allow water to instantly escape.

Wet/dry traction is assured by a siped, lugged outsole with Omni-Grip® Wet Grip rubber for sure footing on slick surfaces. it’s Quick drying and is meant to be worn everywhere. The Drainmaker feels Comfortable in land or water.

As someone who loves the outdoor and does activities such as Kayaking and trekking on a regular basis the Columbia Draimaker was finally the solution! I have tried various sandals, booties and crocs None fit the bill.

These shoes are extremely light and comfortable. Performance is outstanding when it comes to being on the water and when you get on land, water just flow out instantly from the built-in drainage ports in the heel and forefoot. With the cushioning provided one will feel confortable standing in or out of the water. Ever Since I have gotten them I use the Drainmaker for everything from hiking, Climbing, camping, fishing, biking and kayaking.  It’s feel like a running shoe and so much more – All terrain shoe build for the greater outdoor.

Running on them are possible but I won’t suggest one to do a marathon let alone a 21km. Running on 10km should be fine. This due to the lack of cushioning provide on the shoe, running in them almost feels like running in a minamal cushioning but if you are into barefoot or minimalist running. The laces is just one minor thing I feel that can be made better, the shoe laces were too long and it gets undone often, my suggestion will be to change the laces to Quicklace so that the laces could be secure better and provide a much greater support.

Techlite™ is a specially formulated closed cell compound that delivers impact absorbing support, stability and protection, so you can go the distance in comfort. Engineered specifically to provide superior comfort and cushioning in Columbia’s high performance outdoor footwear, Techlite material is also naturally antimicrobial, odor resistant, and easy to care for. Durable, odor resistant, and shock absorbing, Techlite is an ideal material for consistent support and protection throughout a range of footwear uses.

Hold tight on any terrain with Columbia shoes sporting Omni-Grip outsoles! A multi-terrain traction system that matches specially formulated compounds and treads to specific environments, Omni-Grip outsoles give you sure-footed confidence for any activity. With advanced traction solutions designed for trails, hiking, winter, and water, Omni-Grip shoes and boots ensure outdoor stability, no matter where your adventures take you.

  1. about the drain maker by colum

if i wear it in the rain… slight wet muddy places..

will the water go inthe shoes from bottom up easily? getting my socks wet?

(even if it can /will dry itself fast…)

  2. Normally I don’t wear socks when I’m wearing the drainmaker, they are an excellent pair of kayaking to trekking shoe. The quick drying material dry the shoe and your feet fast thus enabling you to transition to Trekking with ease.
