12 June 2011, Back for its fifth edition, the Mizuno Mount Faber was once again pronounced a smashing success after more than 2565 runners pounded the tracks of made famous Mizuno Mount Faber 10km Route which started from Tiong Bahru towards Mount Faber and Back. Guest of Honor for the event was Ms Indranee form Tanjong Pagar GRC.
This was the 4th time I am participating in this race ever since 2008, the run have seen little but yet significant changes over the years and this had made running in this race more enjoyable every time. Every year the Organizers had made productive changes to ensure that the participant had a nice time participating in the race.
The route was kept the same as previous year and it will challenge the runners as they make their way across the Bukit Merah area and towards Mount Faber, where a series of uphill and downhill terrains awaits them.
Just like the previous year participants gathered at the Open Space between Block 121 & 123 Bukit Merah View on a special Sunday Morning to challenge themselves in completing the 10k Mount Faber run.
Flag off time was at 7:30am sharp. The first 2-3 km was a series of uphill and downhill terrain, following the contours of the township of Bukit Merah. Then we came to the first traffic stop. AsOrganizers did not have the rights to stop traffic, therefore everyone unfortunate had to stop and wait for the traffic marshall to give the “Go Sign” before proceeding.
The route led everyone uphill to reach the peak of Mount Faber. This was clearly the toughest section of the race as many participant made several small stops before they carried on scaling up the hill. Water Aid station was station on the peak to providing Ice cold 100plus to all the participants.
From there it was a fast downhill slope down Mount Faber. Many participant took this opportunity to open up their stride and take advantage of the downslope to catch up on their timing. Many make quick work in clearing this section of the route.
From the foot of the hill it was about 2km of flat route to the finishing line.
As soon as they crossed the finishing line, Finisher Medals was given out to every finisher; this was the second time Mizuno giving out Finisher’s medal for this event.
Everyone then gathers at the booth set up by the organizer for some refreshment and bananas, Some were browsing through the new range of Mizuno product on display at one of the booth. There was a sea of runners in their Orange event running jerseys, and everyone were smiling and congratulating one another on their accomplishment in completing the 10K Mount Faber Run. This was soon followed by the prize giving ceremony and the lucky draw events.
Regardless of their timing or goals for participating in this race, I believe everyone had so much fun challenging themselve to complete the route. Personally, it was a challenging Sunday morning run with a beautiful view at the top of Mount Faber. I had so much fun participating in the run. Although there are some participants that till wish for the organizer could implement traffic blocks throughout the route so that they do not have to wait for the traffic before proceeding (which inversely added more seconds to our timing. Other than that it was once again a very well organize and executed event.
In Total there were over 2565 runners registered for the Mizuno Mount Faber which is still a respectable figure considering the other races going on simultaneously around Singapore on the same day.
I will definitely look forward for next year for my 5th Mizuno Mount Faber Run in 2012. This event over the years had turn out to be some what of a reunion running event for myself to meet up with some of the running addicts like myself.
