21 May, The 5th inguaral 100Plus Passion run was organize at East Coast Angsana Green. Close to 12,000 participants registerd and took part in the 3 different distance category run event that day.
Member of Parliament for Marine Parade GRC, Dr Fatimah Lateef was thre to grace the occasssion as the Guest-of-Honour.
Organize by runners for runners the 100Plus PAssion Run powered by Newton pride itself on the tagline “It’s anyone’s, everyone race”. The event promise something for eery participants. For the first time, the 500m Kids’Dash category was introduce as part of the event.
Back again this year was the 25km Men & Women open and the 12Km Men & women category test the participant.
Once again, I took part in the 25km Category. Flag off time for the 25km category was at 4pm and just like last year it was hot and humid. Even before the flag off participant were already drench in their own sweat.
The 25km category route span from East Coast parkway to Changi Coastal Road somewhere close to the Changi Ferry exhibition center and Back. Waterstation was available evey 2km or so providing refreshment of water and 100plus.
As the sun sets away the temperature became more and more comfortable to run in. Running back from Changi coastal road right after the U-turn point was easier as the sunsets.
The route was excellent as it provide some of the participant a chance to orientate and train for their upcoming marathon the following week.
Finishing line was back at Angsana Green, A special 3-in-1 design medal was given to all finisher. Finisher T-Shirt was also given out to all 25km competitive finisher who had out done themselve.
The event did not end there as the organizer also had a movie screening for everyone. East Coast park host a free outdoor movie screening of the animated movie, Shrek Forever After. This was a great opportunity to for participant to just chill out with their family, relax and share their experience in running the different race category participant.
Overall, the event was well executed, depite the mishap that occured on the event. I feel that that more running event should have more evacuation plans and have more safety officers on standby in case of unforseen emergencies. Logistic wise, it was great, water station and portable toilets or sufficient. Goody bag this year also includes a Heart Rate monitor that is useful for runners as it could help them train better for the this race and for other future races. And This year they gave out medals unlike the previous year where the finisher medals was in a shape like a key chain.
It was a fun filled family running event which stick to their tagline” it’s anyone’s, everyone’s race”
