17th April 2011, Tiong Bahru CSC organize The first ever inaugural Salomon Tiong Bahru Urban Trail Run 2011 (10 km). The event saw more than 800 participant taking part in this first ever urban trail Run that will have participants to race and experience the Marang Trail which is 800 metres (2,600 ft) long and an elevation of 70 metres (230 ft).
The trail consists of steps and shaded footpaths through secondary forest. It extends from Marang Road, just behind the HarbourFront MRT Station to the cable car station at the Jewel Box on Mount Faber.
Participants ran through 6 overhead bridges which include the highest pedestian bridge in Singapore known as the Henderson Waves, standing at 36 metres (118 ft) above Henderson Road at 274-metre (899 ft) long pedestrian bridge providing a scenic view of the city to Telok Blangah Hill Park.
The race started on time, 0730, more than 800 participants had gather at Tiong bahru CC to for the official flag off.
Participant made their way to out of Tiong bahru and towards the marang trail, there participant was slowed down with a series of overhead bridges. Some participant find it hard to speed up as they have to wait patiently for the their turn crossing the bottle neck bridge sections.
Water station, or rather 100plus Hydration station. Throughout the whole route only 100plus (no water) was serve at every water station.
Participant ran through up the marang trails conquering a series of muddy gravel roads and steps which followed by a few meters uphill stairs climb leading to Mt Faber park. This was a familiar route for some who had ever took part in the annual Mt Faber run.
Participant made their way across the scenic Henderson Wave. Many stop to pose for pictures before moving on. It was such as beautiful sights to see being on top of the highest suspension bridge in South east asia.
From there participant made their way to the finishing line back at Tiong bahru CC. Every finisher was awarded with a limited edition Salomon Tiong Bahru Arm pouch and Finisher Certificate.
Participant was ushers to the stages area where there were several booth setup by the sponsors. This was also a good opportunity for some to take a look at the latest Salomon Trail Running product that is in the market.
Prize giving ceremony which then followed by Lucky draw. Overall it was a simple but yet well organized event, Despite the minor bad feedback such as the lack of mineral water provided at the waterstation and the frequent stoppage due to traffic and crossing bridges, Many participant enjoyed the route and would wish to be apart of this event again next year.
Now it off to Sabah for me to participate in 12th Sabah adventure Challenge 120km Ultra Trail Run.
