Hype: Sundown Marathon & Ultra Marathon/ NB890 Launch

30 March 2011, As the The Sundown Marathon and Ultra Marathon draws closer once again. The organizer had decide to annouce a the newly release of another 200 highly sought slots for the Sundown Marathon’s 10km and 21km category. To launch this great news with the public with bang, the organizer had team up with New Balance, the official apperal sponsor for the event, to introduce or rather to launch their super light, super bright fast trainer shoe – The New Balance 890s!

The newly released slots for the 10km and 21km category of Sundown Marathon released today was quickly snapped up by eager participants after both categories filled up over two months ago. 42km and 100km slots also quickly disappeared during the road show as queues formed on Raffles Green. This brings Sundown Marathon and Ultra-Marathon’s all time high to 26, 837 runners.

The Sundown Marathon is schedule to take place on 28 May, while runners of Sundown Ultra Marathon are set to pound the city streets on 25 June.

Many made their way down to the road show just to register for the 21km category of the Sundown Marathon and was delighted that organizers HiVelocity opened an additional 50 slots for the category today. Many were glad to hear that the organizers have opened additional slots and that they canbe apart again to run in the Sundown Marathon.

Business Development Manager of HiVelocity Fiona Phua said on the overwhelming response for the entire Sundown Marathon and Ultra-Marathon, “We decided to release a total of 200 additional slots to allow more runners to experience the great race atmosphere of a night run and are fast reaching our target of 27,000 runners. We have seen massive response since registration opened and we are glad to see many of the runners who did not get their slots come specially to register.”

70 members of the public were also seen joining the 35 Sundown Ambassadors from Team Fatbird, who donned their New Balance 890s, for a run at Clarke Quay in anticipation for the Sundown Marathon.

I was fortunate to be one of the few to be able to run with the new NB 890 along Clarke Quay together with the 35 Ambsassadors. The 890s is clearly the lightest pair of trainers I ever worn and … (as always you got to wait for my full review on the NB890 right after I clocked my 80km Mileage on the shoe)

The event also give the public the first confirmed running route of all the running route categories including the 100km ultra marathon and the 42.125km marathon distance. Images of this year finisher tee shirt for the 42km category was also revealed.

Overall, it was an Awesome day being able to be apart of the launch and also to be able to try out the new NB Revlite 890 for the first time. Do look out for my full report on the NB890 sometime in mid of April.
